Police say that a man from Fort Lauderdale tried to hire a hit man to kill his younger brother due to a dispute over their parents' estate, estimated to be worth twenty million dollars. The two brothers are the sole heirs to the estate, so the plot appears to be an attempt to steal the inheritance.

The charge was solicitation to commit murder, but the motive was greed. The man is being held without bail in Broward Main Jail. Police received a tip that the 59-year-old man had offered $20,000 for someone to kill his 53-year-old brother.

There was a promise of an additional $60,000 to $80,000 if the murderer succeeded.

It is not known if the police source was the person actually approached to make the "hit," or if they were a witness to someone else being approached. The man seeking the killing is alleged to have given the source photographs of the brother, along with images of the brother's home and car that the source then turned over to police.

Police have recordings that they say contain conversations about the murder for hire.

The two brothers are heirs to their parents' estate. The parents died in 2006 and 2009. The parents were apparently frugal, "millionaire next door" types. They made money in real estate, stocks and bonds.
